What is your line of work?
I manage a holistic center in Tempe, AZ called The Empowered Living Center. In our center, we have many modalities such as naturopathic medicine, hypnotherapy, professional counseling, MFR physical therapy, and others.
What drew you to the conference in the first place?
I first attended the conference when I volunteered with the LGBTQ Consortium now known as Queer Resource Collective (QuRC). Since then, I have attended every year.
What do you get out of the conference?
I am the first contact with clients at work. Whenever I have a practitioner has a client who is LGBTQ and needs resources, I can refer them to agencies who are friendly, accepting, and affirming. We have clients who are in physical or mental pain and at times, do not respond with in the best of manners. However, with the topics the conference has exposed me to, I have been able to learn basic behavioral health skills and how I can better empathize with different folks who are just trying to be healthy.
What’s your favorite part of the conference?
My favorite part is meeting like-minded individuals who are there to learn on how to support the LGBTQ community in all aspects. I also enjoy the unique keynote speakers that the conference invites.
In your own words, who would benefit from attending the conference?
I would say anyone who is or has a LGBTQ person in the circle of influence can benefit from the conference. There will always be a tool that will be useful for you or a person you care about. Even if someone who has no knowledge about the LGBTQ community, they will be able to learn the basics.
More about the Let’s Get Better Together Conference
The Let’s Get Better Together Conference is a combined effort of the LGBTQ Integrated health Coalition of Southern Arizona and the Queer Resource Collective (QuRC). As the only statewide summit on LGBTQ+ health and wellness, we seek to increase education, resources and understanding of health providers serving the LGBTQ+ community. This is an open and affirming space held for healthcare practitioners and members of the LGBTQ+ and ally community who seek more information about wellness and health resources in all fields of care. We welcome practitioners seeking to earn the CEUs and seeking to expand their skillset to better serve the large and diverse community of people identifying as LGBTQ+. If you want to become a part of a healthier, happier community or if you want to find access to affirming providers, please join our annual conference.
